Meet the Maine Horse Sitter!
Wendy started getting invloved with horses
at the tender age of 10. Having her choice
of English or Western riding, she decided
on English - the same discipline her best
friend was learning. By the fall of that
year, Wendy entered her first horse show
and came out with a second place ribbon -
right behind her best friend.

As the years progressed, Wendy fell more
and more in love with horses and riding.
She started taking lessons at a local barn
in Gray, Maine and most summers could be
found working during the week and showing
on the weekends. " I remember those
days fondly," she recalls. " I
loved going to the barn every day to just
be around the horses. I didn't mind the
manual labor of mucking stalls and would
often be able to have a practice ride at
some point during my day. I got a lot of
riding in during those summers." |
During High School and College, she moved
a few times and left that barn in favor of
a few others. She met some wonderful people
and equines along her way and learned a lot
along the way. It was during this time that Wendy
found Karen Lappas, owner of Chez Chevaux
Equestrian Center in Durham, Maine. She started
working at the barn a few hours a week and
began taking lessons with Karen. This center
was a much larger operation than she was
accustomed to, but she loved it, just the
same. The horses, the routine, all of it
was like coming home. |

Despite having to take time off for babies
and financial hardships through the years,
Wendy remains passionate about Equestrian
sports and the horses themselves. "
I can't imagine my life without horses,"
she admits. " A life without horses,
to me, is almost dull. I'd rather be
with horses or my kids than anything in the
world."
Wendy and her husband and three children
live in Auburn, Maine with their chocolate
lab, Tobey.
